Mere Christianity Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis

One of the 20th century's most influential Christian writers, Lewis sought to explain and defend the historical Christian faith to people at all points on their spiritual journey. Mere Christianity was originally delivered as a series of radio broadcasts on the BBC in the early 1940s and was so influential that it was soon published. It has since become both a bestseller and a classic, thoroughly enjoyed by Christians and skeptics alike.
Growing Your Faith Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense, N.T. Wright

Why is it that we desire justice, but can't seem to bring it about? Why do we long for relationships yet find them so difficult? How is it that the world is full of beauty, yet it's always incomplete and elusive? What do these things tell us about the nature of God?

Simply Christian is a thoughtful presentation of historic Christianity. It summarizes the storyline of the Bible, the teaching of Jesus, and God's purpose for us in the world. Wright's approach is both intelligent and accessible.

Engaging God's World Engaging God's World, Cornelius Plantinga

In this book, Cornelius Plantinga articulates a Christian longing toward the realization of "shalom" in the world in light of biblical understanding of Creation, Fall and Redemption. He goes on to discuss the implications of these for a Christian's vocation (or calling) to serve God by employing his or her knowledge and skills for the good of others and the revealing of God's kingdom. Shalom is a term that means more than just peace of mind or the absence of war: "In the Bible, shalom means universal flourishing, wholeness, and delight -- a rich state of affairs in which natural needs are satisfied and natural gifts fruitfully employed, all under the arch of God's love." Plantinga does not advocate a utopian campaign where Christians try to force society in to a preconceived mold for an ideal world, but rather he desires to see Christians discern principles from the Bible and apply them to the needs of society, respecting the dignity of all human beings as being made in God's image and as having the freedom to accept or reject God. Engaging God's World is a great introduction to an overall Christian worldview for people who are new to Christianity and seeking to integrate their faith into their understanding of life.
Growing Your Faith Growing Your Faith, Jerry Bridges

If we are saved by grace, why try to be good?

What practical steps can I take to develop my relationship with God?

''Christian Growth 101'' is how author Jerry Bridges describes his book, which is an excellent resource for newer Christians as well as a good refresher for more seasoned Christians. Carefully explaining the difference between developing a deeper relationship with Jesus and ''getting good to get to heaven'', Bridges explains what it means for a person to mature in his or her faith. He discusses practices appropriate and necessary for the Christian's life as well as the motivations that should under-gird our desire for spiritual growth.
